GOING TO THE DOCTOR GOING TO THE POTTY

Rogers' calm, loving tone, and simple explanations reassure both parent and child in these ""First Experience Books."" Full-color photographs on every page show young children and parents in realistic and appealing nurturing roles. Black, oriental, and white family groups are shown. ""Going to the Doctor"" explains what the child will experience. Rogers shows the special tools of the doctor (male and female here), including otoscope, stethoscope, and tongue depressor, adding: ""All these instruments that doctors use to examine you can seem a little strange or uncomfortable, but they usually don't hurt."" ""Going to the Potty"" counsels parents to delay toilet training until children exhibit readiness. He encourages realistic expectations and uses adult terminology for body functions. The patient, gentle, and relaxed approach he advocates is reassuring. For Rogers' many fans and for parents looking for a positive, supportive approach to common parenting experiences.
