Refreshingly relieved of the familiar ponderous heroics and nomenclature, this dashing romance about a Viking crusader and his whirlwind adventures is told with vigor and skill. Mr. Cos is well acquainted with the period, and the battles and doughty deeds have a blood-chilling realism. Olaf the Norseman, bound by a vow made for him by his mother after his recovery from serious wounds when he was ministered to by a Christian priest, sets out for Jerusalem. Many adventures befall the stout Norseman -- capture on an island, service under the emperor of Byzantium, a terrible castle siege, the Battle of the Lance, finally the vowed deed at the Holy City -- and love. Frankly a tale of action boys will approve.
