In the days before the white settlers, Winter Weasel, a Blackfoot Indian boy, faced the hazards of leading the buffalo hunt. His skill and his courage enabled him successfully to initiate a buffalo stampede, and there, on the Montana plains, he earned the right to be called White Calf, and became a full fledged member of his tribe. Author of the recent Mrs. Mouse Needs a House and other nature books, the author writes vividly of the piskun or buffalo hunt. Integrated in his swift tale of adventure, there is much specific information dealing with a period relatively unexplored in works of juvenile fiction.
