ORIENT EXPRESS: The Birth, Life and Death of a Great Train

A thorough and determined biography of the celebrated Paris-to-Constantinople train, rendered largely a geography of terrain. Mr. Hogg writes with a detectable British accent, occasionlly turning out florid phrases and creating his own cliches by repeating them. Much of the descriptive material comes from the two books by journalist-passengers on the 1883 inaugural trip of the ""Magic Carpet to the East""; advertising brochures and reports from the archives of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits supply the many ancedcotes (antique humor often over-stretched). Of doubtful interest to all but Pullman patrons and patriots (like Mr. Hogg) who will find it a colorful documentary.
