Millionaire Hardin Greathouse decides to realize a pet dream of sponsoring the first American built and operated racing cars at Sbring- the world famous European track. With Claude and Daze Falconer, expert father and son team, Ted Flagg, retired old pro, and Cole Greathouse, the nucleus of the Crusaders springs into action. First -- the perfection of engines and tires. The competition at the Riverside Grand Prix pits the Crusaders against the royalty of racing -- Ferraris, Porsches, Maseratis -- and victory for the unknowns leads to still more work in construction and trial sprints. Then the great day at zebring where the Greathouse dream comes true. The all-consuming character of auto racing is explored in detail with Dave Falconer behind the wheel. Its implied benefits come through in Cole's transformation from a slick rich kid to a loyal crew member. The technical content is authentic -- a plus for the book. The style of writing, like the characters, is strictly one dimensional.
