THE BRIGHT ADVENTURE

An aqua-tinted small fantasy from England (apparently Mr. Rose has written two earlier books of this nature) in which Billy, ne 1900, remembers a boyhood adventure which could easily have taken place in a still earlier century, if at all. As a youngster Billy attends the death in the nearby Honeysuckle Cottage, of Mr. Roderick, who sends him to fred out about some Liberator's gold in South America. A man in London gives him a ruby and a 100-pound bill to make the trip possible; Billy's taken captive; he meets the girl Rosita said to be the daughter of the Liberator (actually she's Roderick's) and he goes back empty-handed to remember this ignis fatuus in the comer of an old man's eye. Unutterably perishable.
