SUPERWORM

Mr. Deaux's Exit was a revolving door in and out of madcaptivities and this one operates on the same frenetic level. Associate Professor Claude Flowers is a man overcome by his seemingly futile position in a world ruled by push button insanities. He launches his private rebellion by turning himself into Superworm, outfitted in a unique hero costume composed of sagging black underwear, a Halloween mask, desert boots and a Navy watch cap. His first public exposure, in a barber shop, leaves him struck dumb by a meter maid called in to protect the astounded patrons. He is bailed out of the brig by his sympathetic wife Paula and Fred, the history department head who enjoys his ""favorite old cut-up."" Next, Claude, who has acquired a Robin to his Batty Man in jail, attacks a Mama Mia Pizza sign that has been cluttering up the landscape. One of his colleagues catches on and asks that he too be let in on the rebellion. Together they blow up the Mama Mia Pizza factory, which has been polluting the local river. Fame spreads. Soon Claude's students request that the Worm lead them in a protest ""Stew-in"" (the brew is comparable to LSD) in Washington. Superworm has moments but like the comic books that give the hero his impetus, a little joke doesn't go a long way.
