by George Plimpton ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 1, 1955
Whimsy and fantasy in pleasant conjunction as we hear just how Adams' townsfolk tackle their streetcar problem. First, there is Peter whose father runs a thimble factory. Then there is Lump, the huge dog whom Peter gets from the pet shop man, and who has a sizeable effect on the rest of the community. We also meet Mr. Otway, Adams' lone streetcar conductor, Mr. Delaney, the policeman, and three rather unsuccessful robbers,- Pease, Punch and Mr. Bounceley. Caught by the powers that be, the robbers stand trial. But on their imprisonment hinges the demise of the street car so their case is won on the grounds that they have never managed to steal anything and they are free to turn the streetcar into a travelling diner. Precious in style, but with a nice ration of the ridiculous.
