Soviet penetration is the name of the game and this one's a snail-paced spy story bogged down from the start in a maze of bureaucratic mumbo jumbo. Diligent Alex Schneider--code-named Rose Two back at the Kremlin--has spent more than twenty years as a deep plant in the States thanks to an expedient war orphan cover. Recently promoted to the rank of KGB Lt. Colonel, the senior-level political analyst is about to start working for the CIA when he's asked to jeopardize his carefully constructed career for a ""one-time crash operation."" The scholar manages to execute his mission--copying a top-secret Pentagon document containing a breakthrough in Laser ABM development--but then things begin to go wrong. Wittman knows his business even if he doesn't quite know what to do with it. This think tank needs Roto-Rooter.
