The theft of the Oppenheimer jewels, insured at 250,000 pounds is well told here by two men who covered the case. The jewels were allegedly intended for Lucky Luciano. Stolen from a safe in South Africa with nary a fingerprint, thence out of the country in a pillowcase, the well laid plans went astray through the intervention of William Lincay Pearson, an ""inventor"" with a shady past who informed for a price. The magnitude of the robbery and the intrigue make it an interesting case -- and the authors do it justice.
