by Gertrude Chandler Warner ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
In a rather far fetched sequel to The Boxcar Children and Surprise Island, set in Maine, Grandpa Alden tells his variously aged grandchildren about Bill, his own father's weak willed hired man. Bill had lived in the yellow house on the island with Mrs. MacGregor, his wife and still their housekeeper, but had disappeared with some stolen funds. Fired with the unsolved mystery, the kids, make a trek inland, and find Bill, a repentant old hermit, well punished through loneliness and thinking his wife was dead. Reconciliation brings happiness, but the story seems forced and on the unrewarding side.
