BRIGHT SIDE UP

Commercial photography and the problems a girl has establishing herself as a member of the trade in a small west coast community are the setting of a fair career novel by a writer whose record has included both good (Unexpected Summer- 1949) and bad (Calling Dr. Marcia- 1952) young adult fiction. The scene opens with Stacey Carlton clinching her first sale of pictures to a real estate agent- a feat she accomplishes with the skill of a good technician and business woman. But the sticklers begin when the building Stacey has used as a studio is rented out to a young man, Gordon. Stacey hunts for another and finds it. Then she and Gordon (a former newsman) stumble on the dregs of an old trust company theft, which enables them in the long run to further their careers (Gordon returns to reporting) and to harness help to establish a library in the community. ""Dreams come true"" but with plenty of elbow grease.
