This is Mrs. Taber's loving chanty anent Cape Cod where she lives with her cat Amber (celebrated in Amber, a Very Personal Cat, 1970), and followers will be happy to know that Amber now dines on fresh flounder simmered in butter. Again Mrs. Taber responds with gentle trills although there are sad notes about changes in the wind: doors are now being locked, there's a weather eye out for ""hippies,"" and the sound of the bulldozer is heard in the air. But there are always the seasonal wonders of sea, weather and fauna, a snug dwelling and neighborly natives (""I just wanted to call you and say the bees are back""). And even readers put off by hyperbole will find some points of congruence. What could be nicer than a breakfast of ""tiny codfish cakes and beach plum jelly""? -- even if Mrs. Taber puts unorthodox paprika in her chowder. Stillmeadow on the dunes.
