THE ADVENTURES OF TIPPY

Tippy is a peddler who fulfills his dream of becoming an hostler after many exciting adventures. A ferocious storm wrecks the ship on which he is traveling, he is overtaken by fierce robbers, tied and left for dead, and is saved by a delightful snail gatherer. Ingenuity, courage and the simple stout heart conquer the robbers and leave the valley, and the mountain, places of peace. If your child must have fancy, and clves and fairies do not meet your approval, here is such a book -- for wool gatherers, choose makers, animal trainers, retired royal cooks, a king and a princess in disguise, and other imaginative trappings, are part of the story. There are no speaking trees or animals, and everything, almost, could have happened somewhere, somehow. But the whole, however, seems undistinguished.
