A joyous family saga which leaves one chuckling and breathless. More fun to read than to share. I'd say, for the continuous chaos in which sundry temperaments live together is exhausting for all concerned. But they seem to enjoy it for the successive rebellions and attempts to live alone and like it never work more than a few hours. Nino is short for Glovanni; Margherita, his own wife, is maddeningly illogical and often stubborn in reverse; ""The Duchess"" who is round about seven, is bewilderingly infantile and precocious in turn, and creates her own type of upheaval; while nine year old Albertino is matter-of-fact and monosyllable- in rebellion perhaps to the rest of the family. Then there's the cat whose one- and only- ""egg laying"" produces four kittens that won't stay put. From Milan to the country the Guareschi odyssey provides ample entertainment in a series of short shorts that provide a many faceted family portrait. Light entertainment for those would know the creator of Don Camillo at first hand.
