An ""introductory historical survey of medical psychology rather than psychia"", a survey covering the theories contributing to modern psychology since primitive oriental times. A book for those in the professions and students, not for the average layman. Greek and Roman pathfinders, the age of superstition and witch-craft, the st psychiatric revolution at the close of the 16th century, the Renaissance, the 19th century with new systems, Mesmer, Charcot, Bernheim. Finally the advent of Freud and the ""discovery"" of the unconscious. Without pretending to know the field, we feel that this should take its place as a standard background book.
