by Guy McCrone ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 20, 1956
A charming story told on two levels, as Margaret Raymond, widow, returns to her childhood home in Glasgow, and -- during her beloved doctor grandfather's illness, explores the story of his romance -- and finds its parallels in her own. It is a trick- let's confess it- that has been used before, but Guy McCrone, of Red Plush fame, has a deft touch, and the two stories, told in counterpoint, provide enticing fare. The rugged old surgeon had served his apprenticeship in medicine -- and love against difficult odds, and his wife, who still adores him, is reluctant that her granddaughter learn the story with all its unconventionalities. But in final analysis, it is that story of a period long past that seems more real than her own hesitant approach to romance with a young doctor whose very likeness to himself in youth had won the old surgeon's respect, affection and faith. A heart-warming tale, refreshingly old fashioned.
