by Gwendolyn Bowers ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 16, 1959
The summer vacation preceding Anne Hilton's last year of high school promises to be a dreary one spent forlornly in her native New England coastal town. Her best friend, Joy, returns from boarding school under the influence of a flirtatious and anobbish roommate. An arrogant opportunist exploits Anne's friendship for his own gains, and David,on whom Anne has always relied, is making plans to spend the next year away at college. But with the discovery of her inner potentialities and a reevaluation of her goals, Anne not only survives the summer but turns it into a triumph. A mechanical plot is redeemed to some extent by the good natured capacity for self criticism with which Gwendolyn Bower, author of the Wishing Book Doll, endows her heroine.
