LET'S BE FRIENDS AGAIN!

According to the author, this story should help the growing child reinforce his ""natural, loving instinct to forgive."" A small boy tells how his little sister let his pet turtle loose in a pond, thinking it needed more exercise. Furious, he wants to kill her. He goes to his room and imagines ways to punish her, taking out his anger by crying, punching his pillow, and making himself sick. At last he knows what to do: he takes his sister's hand and says, ""By the way, the thing about the turtle is OK. I'm not angry anymore."" Then, hand in hand, they go to buy two hamsters, one for him and one for her. Soft watercolor illustrations are sweet, but have a greeting-card quality with a smiling boy, girl, dog and frog, and a rosy sunset for the finale. Unconvincing.
