by Harry & Brian W. Aldiss--Eds. Harrison ‧ RELEASE DATE: Dec. 1, 1972
A liberal sampling from the most durable of SF pulps, started in 1929 and still with us as Analog. Despite the '30's and '40's derivation of the stories, don't expect BEMS menacing the mad scientist's scantily clad daughter. This is serious science fiction -- mostly classics like Heinlein's definitive time travel tale, Asimov's civilization for which darkness falls only once every 200 years and Simak's projection of the effects of advanced technology on life style. Then a few surprises like two views of determinism, one by Alfred Bester and the other by the almost forgotten Ross Rocklynne. Volume II to come.
