GUY LENNY

Guy Lenny is twelve years old, tough, and in distress. He's robbed of his paper route collection by a high school creep who is running around with Guy's old friend Maureen. Worse, his relationship with his father is threatened by Emily, Dad's new girl who is always hanging around and getting in the way. Then Guy's mother, who ran away with a colonel seven years earlier, returns full of phony sweetness and asks Guy to live with her and her insensitive husband. Dad says it's Guy's decision, but when Guy refuses to go he discovers that Dad has arranged the whole move so that he will be free to marry Emily. In the end Guy is a little tougher; he knows the grown-ups can make him go, but he knows too that there are no more lies they can tell him. Guy's resilient personality, his working class world, and his dilemmas are handled with honesty and enough spark to keep the story moving.
