Not a revision of Quiller-Couch's famed Oxford Book of English Verse, 1250-1900 (several editions) but a new anthology. Gardner, who follows Q's basis selection criteria (the ""lyrical or epigrammatic"" best), includes only poets established by 1950 and only those from the British Isles, the one exception being Pound who wrote appropriately, ""To have gathered from the air a live tradition/or from a fine old eye the unconquered flame/This is not vanity.
