Reading aloud was- not too long ago- the peak of ""family fun"". Perhaps it is coming back into its own. This anthology -- for such it is despite the somewhat misleading title (that led me to believe it was just another game book) is refreshingly uninhibited. Selections have been made with the whole family entertainment as the touchstone. And the result is a motley of pieces, short stories, humorous bits, quizzes, poems, old favorites and new. The Table of Contents, too, strikes an original note, as it parallels the application forms filled out ad nauseum, -- Name, City or Town, Occupation, Date and Place of Birth, Schools Attended, Specific Aptitudes, Number of Dependents, Draft Status, Hobbies, Will You Travel? Any Further Remarks?, etc., etc. The old names are here,- Leacock, Mark Twain, Bill Nye, Irving Bachelor, Frank Stockton, Benchley. But the newer ones are here too, Fadiman, Shirley Jackson, H. Allen Smith and a healthy admixture of unknowns. For all ages and most tastes -- a fun collection.
