LINCOLN A BIG MAN

A close-up view of Lincoln, the man, somewhat sentimental, gives a very human view of a great person. The sympathetic black and white drawings by Arthur Rolonsky portray the railsplitter as the country spilled into the West and the gangly Illinois lawyer battled with Douglas over slavery vs. free states. This is an amiable compilation of small stories and human interest episodes which bring the man and the president into close focus for hero worship. Layout, illustrations and text are a harmonious synthesis perpetuating a legend, clarifying a crisis.
