NORTH FROM ROME

A suspense novel in the best tradition, this is a tightly knit, closely reasoned story of Communist infiltration and an international narcotics ring which magically unfolds its setting, the hilltowns of Rome, before the reader. William Lammiter, American playwright, who has lost the American girl he loves to an Italian Count, becomes involved in the conflicts of an Italian girl who troubles his emotions, a dowager whose instincts for right are at war with her pride of family and a gallery of righteous and roguish Romans. Good writing in a novel of considerable stature.
