Liz Bowen's plans to wed Philip Montgomery are attended by small misgivings which lead to larger fears and threats-- from the murder of a private detective who has a line on her past and the secret inadmissible to Philip, to the questionable circumstances surrounding the death of his first wife, the hostility of his stepdaughter, and finally two additional casualties. Mild Inspector McKee pursues the case with tenacity- solves it successfully. Homicide homogenized with romance for escapist rather than exacting tastes.
