WIDE-AWAKE JAKE

A mildly ingenious business about Jake, wide awake at bedtime, who is advised by his mother to seek help in falling asleep from the Yami of Yawn -- and to greet all dangers en route with a yawn, as that will force enemies to reply in kind. Back in bed, then transported to a path in the woods, Jake does overcome a lion, a dragon, a giant and the Yami's castle guard by yawning contagiously, only to be informed by a turbaned and laughing Yami that he is already asleep and dreaming. Williams' unoriginal illustrations are inoffensive but vacuous (Jake's mother is one of those doll faced young adults you see on dime store note paper).
