by Henning Haslund ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 26, 1934
Romantic reading -- this spirited account of the attempt of five young Danes to found a white settlement in the heart of Central Asia. The preparations for the trip, the long overland trek which carried the little band into undiscovered territory, four isolated years in which they put roots down into the ground in their new homes, and made long journeys of exploration deeper into unknown lands. One of these trips landed Haslund in a Communist prison, and his ultimate release was simply a prelude to further persecutions as the Russian Reds pushed forward their Mongolian program, and blighted the hopes of the little Danish camp. Sell to those who like the better type of travel books, to the Sven Hedin market, especially. Well illustrated with photographs and maps. Easy reading for armchair explorers and those stay-at-home adventurers who can afford it.
