THE AMERICAN CHOICE

The American Choice"" is total defense and total preparedness, which alone can halfway guarantee peace, and this book, by our Secretary of Agriculture, and potential Democratic vice-president, shows how America can protect herself. Although there is a good bit of campaign boom-boom interwoven through the book, his foresight and awareness of the current situation is heartening. His thesis is that Roosevelt, in contradistinction to the Republicans, will not play ball with big business and Hitler, and that this country must pursue a path of non-appeasement and self-defense. Defense can be secured through the development of national resources, through betterment of the farm situation, through adequate soil protection, through a more vigorous and less imperialistic Latin-American policy. This is the hard choice, but one which America can handle.
