NORTHERN FARM

The elusive magic of a year on a Kennebec farm is captured here in truly beautiful prose, beginning with the dead of winter and following in the season's changes through to late fall, reminiscent, with its intercepted philosophy in the mood of David Grayson. Excerpts from a farm diary, in contrasting type offer a pleasing break to eye and mental ear. Farm pleasures, duties, visits to friends, work and play with neighbors fill the peaceful days. The everchanging pond, color, texture and sound, holds the author spellbound. Near to the sea, the red house has rare visitors, gulls, strange living aircraft, fox, otter, squirrels, rabbits -- the little life of hill and valley... Among many competitors, this stands out.
