HOW TO FURNISH OLD AMERICAN HOUSES

Most books of this type are keyed to large incomes. Here is a book that adapts the need to the pocketbook, in suggesting that knowledge of periods (both of houses and furniture), good taste, and care in selection, whether the goal be antiques appropriate to the setting, or good reproductions, provides an excellent substitute for unlimited funds. The authors set the scene with a good brief analysis of the architectural developments, and the appropriate furnishings, whether for early American, Georgian or Greek Revial houses . Utilitarian and decorative pieces can be combined; modern innovations can blend with the old; walls, lighting, floors, accessories, window treatment -- all are accorded good middle-of-the-road consideration.
