LISTEN TO THE MOCKING BIRD

Not as amusing as Beer for the Kitten -- nor as naughty. Caustic picture of an echo, for Carrie, parrotlike, voices her current mentor's beliefs and obtains suburban supremacy by pushing her husband up the financial ladder. She changes her environment as she climbs from rung to rung; she alienates her daughter, she loses her husband to another woman; she does not even recognize that she is left high and dry. The portraits of three women emerge and provide the book with some entertaining characters, contrasts and parallels. The scene shifts from Texas to Boston to New York. Tasty diet for the youngish suburban matron.
