by Hilda von Stockum ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 10, 1948
The publisher tells us that this was done jointly by Hilda von Stockum and her children, but I can't imagine other children liking any part of it. I found it pretty sickeningly saccharine, neither good verse nor inspiring on a spiritual plane. Topical value for Sunday Schools- on a long guess- perhaps, as the alphabet rounds up Balaam, Eternity, Gabriel, Principalities, the Word of God, and other as far-fetched fellow travelers. There are saints and sinners, morals and aspects of faith, limpingly versified with the alphabet almost the sole springboard. Even the pictures- in old-fashioned scratchboard technique- lack the charm of most of Hilda von Stockum's work.
