The Lewis and Clark Expedition is good meaty stuff for reading. Young Harry Whitcomb joined the party and shared the many adventures that became history. He camped out, made friends, fought Indians, struggled with the elements, and helped make the expedition that opened a large part of the west to American colonization. Packed with plenty of research in source material. Excellent background and reference book at this age level. Hildegarde Hawthorne's name carries particular weight with libraries.
