WOMAN WITH A SWORD

Here is a dramatic story out of our own history- a fictionized biography of Anne Carroll, known as ""the unofficial member of Lincoln's cabinet"". Fascinating reading, a good story, history revivified, a vital sense of place and period. Many known facts of the dreariest period in Civil War history, for Union sympathizers, take on significance and color. The scene shifts from Washington, torn with inner dissensions; to St. Louis, under martial law; the romance of Anne Carroll and Judge Evans forms a thread throughout the story of Anne Carroll's contribution to the progress of the war. Though definitely intended as an adult book, it should appeal to young people who liked Immortal Wife.
