SHAD RUN

1788, the year of the ratification of the American Constitution, is also a year of decision for young (16) Lancey Quist. A Hudson fishmonger's daughter, Lancey can choose (for a husband) between Dirck, a rich patroon, and Justin, who holds that the Constitution favors the rich. Overestimating her affection for Justin, Lancey agrees to marry him until she finds that he is a member of Shay's rebellion and that it is Dirck she loves.... Likeable.
