BACKBOARD MAGIC

Nothing particularly novel in this, but it is a dependably good high school basketball story for boys. A new angle is the conflict between city and small town life, as Skip grudgingly accepted the inevitable when, at the start of his senior year at the city school, he has to go with his father to a small town to live. When he finds that his prowess in basketball is more appreciated here than in the city, things begin to look up, and before the story ends, his team is winning preliminaries for state championship, and eventually comes up against the old city high school team- and wins. There are the usual stock characters- the usual conflicts- but familiar ingredients are blended in a story that has some different twists. On the whole satisfactory.
