by Hubert Skidmore ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 12, 1940
This is a sequel to River Rising, and to my way of thinking, not so good a story. Perhaps it is because, once the aim of his work is achieved, and York Allen is a doctor, the story of his budding career resolves itself into a succession of more or less predictable and similar conflicts with the superstition and jealousy and suspicions of the mountain people to whom he brought his gifts. He wins out, but it is a tough battle.
