SOUTH BY THUNDERBIRD

With keen enthusiasm for his books on Bermuda and Cuba, we anticipated this book on Central and South America by plane with interest. And it entirely lives up to the promise of the others. Strode has that faculty for making his readers share the essential flavor of the places of which he writes. He gives enough of the history and background to strike a note of authenticity; he introduces governmental and economic aspects in conversations with people of all sorts; he shares his impressions and his enthusiasms. In a final chapter he discusses the trip that President Roosevelt made and the signing of the American pact. The appendix sketches the history of the Pan-American Airways.
