Reported originally in the October 15th bulletin as follows: ""The author of Life-line to a Promised Land (Vanguard) here reports two trips, 1946 and 1947, in the interests of UNRRA, and particularly concerned with the problem of the DP's, primarily Jewish. In a survey in Turkey, in Germany, he had a taste of Army incompetence, British aloofness; he saw continued evidence of anti-semitic attitudes; he was emotionally stirred by favoritism exercised to the disadvantage of Jewish columns of DP's. He tangled with top brass, he pried and provoked, pleaded and prodded, and achieved some results. Aware of his own emotional, vulnerability, he sought international cooperation, and prepared for a second trip, designed to wipe out the horrors of Funk Caserne as a Jewish DP shelter; to see the story in Poland, in Czechoslovakia, Austria and Italy... A story of small hopes and large disappointments, inefficiency, disorder, national politics making a mess of human rights, of chapter and verse on a project fouled by inefficient officials, uncooperative governments. An indictment of a one world which disintegrates in deep-bred antagonisms, breeding for war among those lost in international scheming. Cautionary tales for aware citizens- of special interest to Jewish organizations.
