PICTURE BOOK OF ANIMAL BABIES

The Robinsons have made their picture books collectors' items, and this is no exception. But, from the juvenile point of view, the pictures -- lovely as they are -- lack the direct appeal that junior juniors usually prefer. The animals chosen are not quite so stereotyped as the usual animal baby selection, -- giraffes and lions and elephants relieve the farm procession from monotony. And the fact that most of the animals are shown in action is a distinct value. The weakness of the presentation lies in the inconsistency of sizing the animals. The colt looks as large as his mother on the page opposite. This is true, too, of the baby donkey and the fawn. Let's not be captious, however. It is a beautiful book.
