The author of the best selling concentrates his topical eye on such matters as the radio industry, the communist hysteria, and witchhunting, in an almost too-easy presentation. When Clement Archer, a former history professor, learns that a magazine called has denounced five of the people on his radio programs as them by an alloted two weeks. Involved is a the middle-aged, simpering, humane Miss Weller who unwillingly said she would speak at a dinner; sensual, vital Miss Mother-well who her to a dead lover; a Negro who admits nothing but his and a former student who denies the accusation. Archer's investigation leads to his decision. If like the musician's wife, one is trying to overthrow the government, he is against it; but he will fight for Miss Weller who becomes involved through unawareness and humanitarian reasons. This is a question lag of the meaning of ""loyalty"" and a declaration that the present era is a time of twlight in which moral disapproval spreads and contracts, often with fear at its base In spite of the of idea and issue, however, there is too much high for a third .
