At last, in answer to that little red book, Quotations from Chairman Mao, here is a work to give the Chinese pause ... Americans too. ""These quotations have been taken from the speeches, musings and digressions of Lyndon Baines Johnson. Their date and source are noted for reference. No effort has been made to rework these heroic thoughts into grammatical English."" Thus: ""I think you can say this about the Great Society. It sure is crowded."" You'll find the chairman doing a complete reversal of policy on Vietnam from 1964 on; he'll exhibit a certain temperament: ""If you keep Hubert waiting again I'll kick your ass down the hall,"" but he is ever one for defending a ""strong right arm"" such as Bobby Baker... ""a young man of rare and real promise."" But leave us not forget... ""I'm the only President you've got"" ... even with a few slips showing. This will probably be studied by Republicans. Elephants have long memories.
