Berel Topf became Berel Bernardi, the Austrian/Hungarian Jewish actor who transplanted himself and his wife Laina to America. They became mainstays of the Yiddish theatre of the early 1920's. With names like Molly Picon, Paul Muni, Bertha Kalish and Jacob Ben-Ami. Unfortunately their talent remained stuck in the hinterlands and on the borscht circuit with only one of their children making it. . . Herschel. . . and this is a reminder that it vas tough but vonderful, in its own way.
