THE SHALLOW GRAVE

A prim spinster schoolteacher is found strangled and stashed under some leaves near a quiet country town--but Chief Inspector Rosher soon finds out that the late Miss Beavis was really the estranged and provocative Mrs. Beavis, and, moreover, she was pregnant. And, though the guilt-ridden voice of the murderer is introduced from time to time to mislead the unwary, the perverted culprit will be obvious to any readers at all familiar with this particular brand of heavy-breathing (murder is ""the vicious by-product of all the manifold perversions taken in by Adam with a little bit of apple""), sexually obsessed (there's as much emphasis on the Inspector's lusts as the killer's), vigorous but empty British psycho-police procedural.
