THE GESTAPO

Ten years of research enable Mr. Delarue to use the Gestapo as the focal point in his breakdown of the gigantic Nazi machine. He proceeds chronologically from the birth of National Socialism through the formation and development of the ""central pivot of the Nazi State"" -- the Gestapo- to the consequences of its moral precepts. Politically oriented, this book offers a wealth of facts about the nature of the organization, its creators and the social structure in which it flourished while generally avoiding a rehash of previous material. The insights into the characteristics of the leaders and the intrigues within their ranks are particularly fascinating, while the information about the methods which gradually stifled the opposition and led to mass indoctrination or indifference points up the tremendous complexity of the Nazi network. The author does not try to maintain a completely dispassionate voice, but for the most part he sticks to the facts confining himself to an occasional comment. His presentation helps to clear the smog from the image of the ""the German Mind"" that remains predominant in our tentative attempts at understanding. A valid research work as well as one of general interest.
