by James Anderson ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 23, 1977
Don't be put off by that rather campy title. What we have here is a faithfully, even slavishly, rendered tribute to the early work of Agatha Christie. Country House, foreign intrigue, spunky heroine, and utterly surprising--if unfair--denouement. Anderson brings it off without inspiration but with grace, ease, and the courage to let things move at that English-manor pace. Some readers demand their suspense Baretta-fast and will reject this; the rest of us can rejoice in an excavation well done.
