FRIEND CHARLIE

Charlie is one of those friends who make life worthwhile. He has the total admiration of the boy who is the narrator. This sawed-off Boswell retails twelve anecdotes of Charlie's mad mischief in natural, easy vocabulary. The two boys are so close that Charlie even borrows his friend's dream and returns after a week, greatly improved. In another story, Charlie makes a horse laugh and all the stories should have the same effect on beginning readers. The book ends with Charlie's helpful checklist of things NOT to do, offering such sensible gems as, ""Don't sit on crocodiles,"" and ""Don't trade your mother to gypsies."" The boy really has something, including nicely nonsensical illustrations.
