Trouble is lurking around just about every corner in 17 year old Roger Holman's life in Southern California and as he endures a typical high school year the results are as funny-serious as Girl Trouble. Operation ABC etc. With the gifts of pointed characterizations and a rather sparkling vocabulary- a combination that will make teen agers laugh at themselves- Roger's problems with girls, cars, shyness and track, are put on quite a meaningful level. Nuts about glamorous Shirley, Roger gets over his crush and latches on to Margery who is far nicer. Doubtful about his running capabilities, Roger loses the mile through no fault of his own but is gratified by just recognition and a chance in the finals. A delightful look at a tongue-tied age.
