THE GOLDEN BOOK OF CHRISTMAS TALES

Subtitled Legends from Many Lands, which accurately categorizes this big, attractive collection of nineteen stories drawn from many sources. In each case, whether the legends are apocryphal Gospel stories of the childhood of Jesus, or legends with regional and period flavor such as La Befana from Italy, the story of Joseph of Arimathea and the Glastonbury Thorn, the Visit of the Wise Men, the Christmas Rose of Sweden, the author-illustrator team have gone back to either the original or the authentic source for their material. The large colored pictures are excellent as to background, detail and color, and have a folk tale quality that is definitely appealing. Some of them appeared in Life Magazine.
